Project Shine Retreat Jan 2017

CRRS Project Shine Retreat was held on Jan 6-8th, it was our 3rd year already. It was such a blessing to gather the Project Shine Summer Trip alumni together again! It was very special, as we had 14 young people joining retreat this year, three are from Toronto and one from Calgary. We stayed together for 2 nights in Squamish(near Vancouver), we shared some great stories, including some deep devotional sharing,

We discussed Project Shine local ministries and creating ideas for the Project Shine 10 year anniversary celebration. One of the highlights is we drew together and shared our dreams, painting with fine Chinese brushes, it was a very memorable moment. We also cooked and cleaned up together and experienced one of the most important aspects in leadership, serving each other humbly.

Below is a sharing from our alumni, Rebecca Lee…..

“My name is Rebecca Lee and I have attended Project Shine from 2012 to 2016. I am thankful for coming to Squamish for the retreat with CRRS Project Shine members. When I came to the retreat, I realized that all of us have inner voices and life changing stories from all of our teachers

During the retreat, I created nutritious meals with other members and sang many songs together every day at the retreat. When we made meals together, we spent time talking about this past year and how we have grown. I look forward to volunteering more with English language learners and seeing what is in store for us in this new year.  Seeing the warm faces of our friends and discussing new initiatives together is putting our faith into action. As an educator in Toronto, I work a lot with English language learners, as well as a variety of other students. So, I hope to apply what I learned in this retreat, with my students. In order for all of these great initiatives to happen, we must see our community through the eyes of the heavenly father.

Let us be reminded of the following bible verse: Philippians 2:1-2: “If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like minded, having the same love, being one in Spirit and purpose.”
