Born to Shine Summer Camp 2024 – THANK YOU!

This past summer, our ministry partnered with Vancouver Urban Ministries to successfully host the ‘Born to Shine Children’s Summer Day Camp’ for kids from low-income families in Vancouver’s Chinatown/Strathcona area! This event not only brought joy to the children but also provided them with valuable opportunities for learning and growth. A heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers and sponsors who supported and helped us accomplish this meaningful mission. Your participation made all of this possible!

Special Activities

Kung Fu & Lion Dance Workshop

A big thanks to Chau Luen Athletics (加拿大溫哥華眧倫體育館) for sponsoring this workshop, which allowed the children to learn Kung Fu and experience the movements of lion dance. Chau Luen Athletics, located in Vancouver’s Chinatown, takes pride in teaching traditional Chinese martial arts and cultural practices. They promote Chinese culture through Kung Fu, lion dance, and dragon dance in community events throughout Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.

Darts Workshop

We thank Deakin Ng (iDartsLife) for guiding and sponsoring this workshop. He is one of our CRRS colleague, as well as a darts competitor and instructor. During the learning and practice of soft-tip darts, it was clear that the children were very focused and enjoyed the experience. They were especially engaged during the final darts competition with their friends.

Instructor Deakin Ng shared that practicing darts brings many benefits—from improving basic math skills and physical coordination to developing a resilient mindset when facing challenges. He believes that the most important lesson darts teaches is the value of concentration.

Family Day Pizza Party

On the last day of summer camp, we organized a Family Day Pizza Party at a nearby park and invited the children’s families—including parents and siblings—to celebrate the end of camp together. In addition to delicious food, we also prepared fun activities such as face painting, balloon animals, and kite-making crafts, among others.

The event received a very positive response, giving parents the opportunity to meet our volunteers and leaders, and creating a space for meaningful interaction.
