Project Shine China Summer Trip (2008 – 2019)
Project Shine Summer Trip is a one-week cross-cultural English camp program for underprivileged students in rural China. Through this cross-cultural exchange trip, Project Shine helps North American youths and young adults explore Asian culture and enrich life experience.
Born to Shine Local Summer Camp (2020 – now)
Project Shine local kids camp “Born to Shine Summer Camp” is a one-week summer camp for inner-city kids in East Vancouver. In the camp the kids get to experience a vartiety of activities including: playing games, singing, making crafts, DIY snacks, dancing, exercising, learning meaningful lessons and much more! Volunteer with us as camp leaders to serve our local community and build friendships with these precious kids!
The switch from China trip to local summer camp
Due to the pandemic, since 2020 Project Shine has changed its’ format from a summer trip teaching English in rural China to hosting a free summer camp in East Vancouver for inner-city kids locally. The local summer kids camp is named “Born to Shine Summer Camp”.
In 2020, we hosted “Born to Shine Summer Camp” as an online camp and in 2021 we hosted our first in-person camp locally. For 2022 and onwards, we hope to continue hosting in-person camps for inner-city kids locally in the Chinatown area in East Vancouver.
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
(Matthew 5:14-16)
