2023 marks the 4th year of the Born to Shine Summer Camp at Chinatown Peace Church. This outreach camp is organized by CRRS Project Shine and Vancouver Urban Ministries. We provided a meaningful and memorable week for low-income children in the East Vancouver Strathcona area. We were excited to have a total of 46 kids who attended. We couldn’t have done this without the help of 19 energetic volunteers who gave their time and love to our camp. The kids loved spending time with the camp leaders and each other. THe most important part of the camp is building relationships with these precious kids.
This year we had a special outing to the Chinese Canadian Museum in Chinatown. It coincided with the exhibition commemorating the 100th anniversary of the 1923 Chinese Exclusion Act’ in Canada, adding significant meaning. Esther, the camp director also took the opportunity to educate the children about the
history and contributions of Chinese Canadians in Canada.
